Just What The Hell Does Progressive Indirect Mean?
Aside from being a great conversation starter, there is actually a bit of rhyme and reason to our name. Here's the low down...
Progressive Indirect is a term from Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do. In his categorization of the different methods of attack, the fifth and final way was listed as Progressive Indirect Attack. This type of attack is in essence one where not every strike thrown is meant to connect. This diversion, this presentation of one option while really meaning to accomplish another is a particularly effective way to fight and to make movies.
Filmmaking is very similar to this philosophy in that you have to go through a seemingly endless list of unrelated tasks in order to get to the point where you have even picked up a camera or set up a light stand.
Now ya know!
